Butter Cookies (Breanna's)

Ingredients:
1 c. unsalted butter, softened
2/3 c. sugar
1 t. vanilla extract
1/2 t. salt
1 t. lemon zest (optional)
1 egg, at room temp
2 t. milk
2 1/4 c. all purpose flour
Directions:
Cream together butter and sugar.
Beat in vanilla, salt, lemon zest, egg and milk.
Add flour gradually until just incorporated.
Divide the dough into thirds and shape each portion into a log of 1 1/2 inch diameter.
Wrap the logs in plastic wrap and chill about 2 hours. (They can be frozen for up to 2 months.)
Unwrap logs and slice cookies about 1/4 inch thick.
Preheat oven to 350º. Bake about 10 minutes or until golden.
