Ingredients:
Choose either the 1 1/2 lb. dough:
- 1 1/2 lb. dough
- 1 T. yeast
- 3/4 t. salt
- 1/4 c. sugar or 2 T. honey
- 7/8 c. warm water
- 3 T. olive oil
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 c. bread flour
or the 1 lb. dough
- 2 t. yeast
- 1/2 t. salt
- 3 T. sugar
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1 egg
- 2 T. olive oil
- 1 c. whole wheat flour
- 1 c. bread flour
Note: If not using whole wheat flour, white flour may be substituted for both flours.
Directions:
- Put yeast, salt, sugar and water into mixer.
- Let yeast bubble.
- Add oil and egg.
- Turn on mixer and add flours, 1/2 c. at a time.
- Mix until dough is smooth and elastic.
- Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and divide dough into pieces.
- Shape pieces, place on greased cookie sheet and flatten each piece.
- Cover and let rise in a warm oven 10 to 15 minutes until almost doubled. (Hint: turn oven on Warm setting for 1 minute, then turn it off, and place covered dough in oven to rise. Remove sheet from oven to preheat.)
- Bake 12 to 15 minutes in preheated 400º oven until golden brown. When cool, split buns in half horizontally.
Note: 1 1/2 lb. makes 10 hamburger or 12 hot dog buns.
1 lb. makes 7 hamburger or 8 hot dog buns.
